Sustaining Systems Change: Findings from a Transition from Jail to Community Initiative Stakeholder Survey

Sustaining Systems Change: Findings from a Transition from Jail to Community Initiative Stakeholder Survey CoverThe Transition from Jail to Community (TJC) initiative seeks to improve public safety and to enhance the success of individuals returning to the community from local jails through implementation of an innovative, evidence-informed transition model in four key areas:

  • Collaborative structures
  • Evidence-based targeted interventions
  • Data and self-evaluation
  • Sustainability mechanisms and capacity-building

Respondents to a TJC sustainability survey credit TJC technical assistance with helping their communities build highly functional collaborations between their jails, other criminal justice agencies and reentry stakeholders; establish or expand evidence-based practices and interventions; enhance foundational capacity to monitor and measure system performance; and reduce recidivism.

This report from Urban Institute, John Jay College, and the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) delves into these and other findings from the sustainability survey to examine the legacy and impact of technical assistance provision in TJC learning communities.
