An Examination of Rural Prisoner Reentry Challenges

Center for Rural PennsylvaniaThis study from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania explores issues and challenges surrounding reentry to rural communities in Pennsylvania from state prisons and county jails. The research used secondary data from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole and used primary data from interviews and surveys to estimate the number and characteristics of people in state prisons and county jails who are likely to be released into rural Pennsylvania communities over the next five years; identify and document reentry programs and services available in rural Pennsylvania; conduct a gap analysis of reentry services available in rural Pennsylvania for successful reentry; and provide public policy considerations.
