This brief highlights five emerging strategies that state corrections agencies have employed to implement an evidence-based approach to reducing recidivism. The state agencies featured in this publication are recipients of the Second Chance Act Statewide Recidivism Reduction grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance. Together these states are demonstrating that meaningful recidivism reduction is possible, but it takes strong collaboration, committed leadership and staff, and data-driven decision-making.
