Infographic: Analyzing Interview and Focus Group Data for Reentry Program Evaluation

Interviews and focus groups can provide important information about reentry programs from the perspectives of participants and staff. Follow these six basic steps when analyzing data generated by these data collection methods:

  1. Get to know the data by reading and rereading the transcript notes.
  2. Organize the data.
  3. Identify categories and themes in the transcripts and notes.
  4. Go through all the transcripts and notes and apply the codes to the data.
  5. Develop themes and offer interpretations.
  6. Write up the findings.

This infographic from the Evaluation and Sustainability Training and Technical Assistance (ES TTA) team at RTI International and the Center for Justice Innovation (formerly the Center for Court Innovation)  details the steps to take when analyzing qualitative data generated from interviews and focus groups.
